Back End Engineer
EXPERIENCE: 5 – 9 YEARS
Position Summary
As a Back End Engineer, you will architect, design, and develop the scalable, high-performance APIs and services that power AIQ’s platform. You will build event-driven systems that process video metadata at scale and integrate tightly with our AI/ML services.
Responsibilities
- Architect, design, and develop REST and/or GraphQL APIs and microservices that follow industry best practices, using Python (FastAPI / Flask) and Node.js (Express.js).
- Build video-metadata processing and event-driven systems.
- Design and optimise database schemas across relational and NoSQL stores (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, TimescaleDB, Redis) for efficient retrieval and storage.
- Implement message-broker-based pipelines using Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Implement authentication and security (JWT, OAuth) and apply API security best practices.
- Optimise API performance for low latency and high throughput; identify and resolve bottlenecks; implement caching.
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines; containerise with Docker and orchestrate with Kubernetes.
- Integrate backend services with AI/ML components and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5 – 9 years of professional software-engineering experience with a focus on API development.
- Proficiency in multiple backend languages (Python, Node.js) and frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, Express.js).
- Extensive knowledge of both relational (RDBMS) and NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with API security best practices and authentication mechanisms.
- Proven ability to optimise API performance and troubleshoot performance issues.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure and AWS) and a strong background in CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills. Experience with data and ML pipelines is a bonus.
